All borders planted with perennials in Battery Park, designed by Piet Oudolf, were supplemented with flower bulbs in the fall of 2005.
The criteria by which the various bulbs were chosen were:

• they had to be harmonious with the existing plants regarding atmosphere
• they had to be suitable for multiple-years planting; once planted, they should return blooming every spring for many years to come.
